Sign up for more VITA volunteer information
Thanks for your interest in the CAS VITA program! We're very proud of our first two year's success and are planning to repeat it for 2016. In summary, here's how it works.
1. Our partners, The United Way of Central and northeastern Connecticut and The Village for Families and Children manage the entire tax prep infrastructure, including advertising, scheduling, appointments, preparer recruitment and training, facilities, computer systems and software.
2. The actual tax preparation is done by non-CPA volunteers, all trained by instructors from the IRS, Village for Families and Children and CAS. Some volunteers have many years of experience.
3. Your role is to oversee the process on-site, contributing your skills and training. The volunteers look to you for leadership, quality control, technical guidance and problem-solving. We ask you to commit to assigned time blocks over the 10-week tax season - whatever you can manage. First-come-first-serve. You can job-share with someone else if you wish. We train you to handle that role and we provide backup support. Over the season, you develop a team that functions like a small CPA firm.
We know you will love this experience! You can use it as a resume-builder, CPE credits, making contacts, CPA license experience, community service, whatever you like. Just give us the chance to make our case. No obligation after that.
